The Most Instagrammable Spots in Uyo

The Most Instagrammable Spots in Uyo
Uyo is one of the most iconic Cities in the Nigeria. When I started photography I couldn’t help it, but compulsively shoot all I could and explore the beauty of this City through my lenses. But what are the best photography locations in our great city of Uyo?
In this post we will be giving you the best spots, the following are some of the most Instagrammable Spots in Uyo:

Unity park, Ibom tropicana and Ibom Plaza are some of the most largely recognized places in the Akwa Ibom and probably three of the most attractive destinations for photographers visiting the state. But there are many other locations that are worth being mentioned, from Ibeno beach to Ikot Ekpene Plaza and other amazing areas that photographers from all around the state “exploit” to capture unforgettable photos. Let’s see what some of these locations are and how to reach the best vantage points.

1.  Unity Park:

The park which is commonly known as Cenotaph to those local to Uyo is open for social events and recreational activities. Unity Park serves as a public park and cenotaph for fallen heroes. Each year the Armed Forces Remembrance Day holds there. Visit Unity Park especially on Saturday mornings and hundreds of people engage in various activities. From weddings to football matches and yoga the list goes on.

I did a quick research and most sources position the Unity Park at the top ten of the most iconic buildings in the State.
There are several vantage points from where it’s possible to capture beautiful photographs of this landmark

2. Ibom Plaza
Right across from the Ibom Connection is the Ibom Plaza. One of the best places to go shopping. Whatever you think to buy you will find there at very affordable prices. Ibom Plaza has an open theater, double-rolled water fountain within the Plaza making it one of a kind in Nigeria. Personally I think Ibom Plaza is the Most Instagrammable Spots in Uyo as so many photographers are around there to take care of your photography need.

Explained: Circle of Confusion and its Impact on Photography

In this article I will explain what is Circle of Confusion in Photography, this might sounds strange to the art oriented students, if you have studied physics you will be familiar with the term ‘Circle of Confusion’  It is one of the less explained aspect even at high school, as a lover of photography you should endeavor to learn by reading through as I will guide you through since it is a very important concepts in photography. If you want to take photo professionally you need to learn how to deliver sharp and clear images(pictures).

What is Circle of Confusion in Photography

Apart from the most talked about factors in photography (aperture, focal length and distance) there is another that also affect the sharpness of an image,  it is called ‘circle of confusion’. It’s a technical concept, but I’ll try to make it as simple as possible in order for you to understand.
Basically, I was so bored the first time I read about it and I don’t want to do this to you. Let’s delve into it.

Do you know, understanding the circle of confusion will take you closer to the goal of taking wonderful images.

Explained: Circle of Confusion and its Impact on Photography
Understanding how camera lenses work and how they are able to focus light makes it easier to appreciate how the circle of confusion works.

Before I proceed, I’m going to simplify this concepts for this article. I know a lot of people have once asked What is Circle of Confusion in Photography, if you’re an expert or know how these things work already, bear with me and don’t hesitate to write in the comments section below if something I say could be explained better, since we are all in the learning world.

When the focus point and the focal plane do not meet, a point source of light (a round light source) appears slightly bigger and no longer appears to be in sharp focus. However, there is a certain range of tolerance in front of and behind a subject before it starts to appear out of focus to the human eye; that range is what is known as circle of confusion. In the below representative diagram the range is highlighted by the purple rectangle.

DO YOU KNOW? How Camera Lenses Work
In a convex lens, parallel rays of light are bent inward thanks to a phenomenon called refraction. See image below.

Light rays that travel through the lens are refracted and converge to a single point. That point is called focal point.

Producing a Sharp Image
Let’s try to understand how your camera focuses light.

The process I’ve explained above is not enough by itself to produce a sharp image. One single lens is not enough.

Explained: Circle of Confusion and its Impact on Photography
As one single convex lens by itself is not able to produce an in focus image, camera lenses have multiple lens elements inside to help with this process. Without going too much into detail this is the reason why certain lenses are more expensive than others. They might have more lens elements inside to produce better quality images, avoiding imperfections such as chromatic aberration.

circle of confusion in photography

Back to sharpness. For a subject to be perceived as in focus by our eyes, points of this object have to be projected by the lens onto the sensor (also known as focal plane) in a way that the focal point is aligned with the focal plane. See image below.

Circle of Confusion and its Impact on Photography

The image is overly simplified. The focal plane never moves, in reality the focus element (not represented) of a lens moves back and forth until light is refracted so that it aligns with the focal plane. The image will be unsharp when the point is off the focal plane and vice versa it will be in focus when it’s aligned.

circle of confusion in photography

If all this make sense to you we are very close to define the Circle of Confusion. There is a certain area in which despite the point being outside the focal plane, it’s still perceived as sharp by our eyes. That is the Circle of Confusion and the image below explains it much better.

Circle of Confusion and Depth of Field
We know that to get the sharpest possible images we need to be bale to get the depth of field right. The depth of field depends from they Hyperfocal Distance which is the focusing distance that gives you the greatest depth of field.

So why is the circle of confusion related to depth of field?

It’s because the measurement of the circle of confusion is used by camera manufacturers to determine the Hyperfocal distance of a lens.

How to Clean Your Camera Lenses and Filters

How to Clean Your Camera Lenses and Filters by Yourself

How to Clean Your Camera Lenses and Filters
In this post I will be showing you the best and secure way to clean your Camera if you have never done that yourself. I personally hate having dirty lenses and filters, and I think You to do. It’s so painful when you go home download your photos to your computer and realize from the spots on your images that your lens or filter was full of dust and dirt.

Do you know a dirty optics, this can and will surely affect the quality of your photographs.

If you don’t clean your camera lenses and filters you will spend a lot more time editing and trying to clean the image from those spots. You can save yourself that time and probably also save your gear too if you deal immediately with dirt and learn how to clean them properly. Here’s my tips on how to do it.

How to Clean Your Camera Lenses and Filters

How to Clean Your Camera Lenses and Filters

Pay Attention When Cleaning Your Camera Lenses and Filters
First of all, I want to keep things simple and make sure you can learn how to clean and take care of your lenses without damaging it.

What To Do

As you have heard I have to say that for this reason I recommend you to not clean your gear too often.

Especially with chemicals. The glass of your lenses and filters is durable, but by using chemicals you risk damaging its resistance and making it more prone to scratches.

Stay away from any chemicals that’s not a dedicated lens cleaning solution. And even then, my word of advice is, use it sparingly.

Dust and dirt are going to be normal when you use your gear especially if you travel or use it outdoor. Dust is everywhere and it will get onto and inside your lens.

Store Your Gear Safely
A good use of your lens caps when you store your lenses and some attention when you attach a lens to your camera body, will reduce the amount of dust they collect. Especially on the rear of the lens.

I repeat again. For a little bit of dust here and there you don’t need to clean your lens.

Smudges and oily finger prints though are another type of problem. They can really cause your image to be blurry and lose its quality.

Here Are The Best Way to CLEAN Your Lens an Filter

Cloth and tissues
Why do I pick Cloth and tissues as my first choice. It is simple and affordable to use.
Moreover, when it comes to use a cloth use only microfiber. I keep one or two always in my bag and I make sure that I only use it for my lenses and for nothing else. Cloths will be re-used multiple times so the secret is to keep them clean. Wash them if you need and make sure to not use chemicals or it will leave streaks on your lenses and filters.

Chemical Cleaners
Now before talking about cleaners let me tell you that I never had to use it. I keep my lenses safe at all time and also clean the inside of my camera bag sometimes to avoid carrying my gear (Cameras) in a dirty environment.

Then I always use blowers, brushes and cloth. The only liquid I use is water and in very extreme cases. Just damping a cloth if needed and it will be just fine.

How to Clean Your Camera Lenses and Filters

Sometimes tough dedicated cleaners can be good if oily fingerprints are not getting away easily. Make sure you use only dedicated cleaners, the ones that are meant for lenses. How to Clean Your Camera Lenses and Filters

USE YOUR LENS CAPSLens caps seem to have become something more of personal preference in the last few years, judging by the posts I see on Facebook. People just get sick of losing them and end up not bothering with them any more. But, they are the single best way to help prevent dust from accumulating on your lens elements.

I’m one of those that got sick of losing lens caps, especially when there’s so many different diameters of filter to account for

Use Blowers

Please note: make sure you don’t use it to blow your sensor. It can be done, but it takes particular attention and I advice you don’t even try it on your own.

Our focus will be on how to blow your lenses and filters.

Blowers are the best way to avoid scratching your glass. I recommend using the blower a few times before using it on a lens to get rid of the dust it might have inside. They can be very efficient with small particles and very gentle with your lens.

Though Blowers are a mandatory tool for a photographer, I personally do not have one. I always rent one. Get one now and it will serve your needs for a very long time!
Planning to get mine though.

You can buy them on jumia or jiji.

Before we conclude take note that we will be bringing to you answers to the following:

How to Clean Your Camera Lenses and Filters, cleaning camera lens with alcohol is it the ideal way, how to clean camera lens at home, camera lens cleaning solution where and how to buy, camera lens cleaning kit, how to clean inside camera lens, sure way on how to clean camera lens without lens cleaner, camera lens cleaning service, dslr lens cleaning kit and so on.

In conclusion, I hope you have learnt about the the new way on how you can clean your camera lens and filters or do you have any other method used in cleaning your lenses and filters other than the one mentioned here?

Long Exposure Photography Tips You Need to Know

Long Exposure Photography Tips You Need to Know

For some times now, I’ve started shooting using Long exposure photography techniques. And this has now become my best technique as some point we’ve all came across to an image of a landscape of which the water seems so magical and smooth and we were amazed by the feel that this image gave us, the illusion of being in a fairy tale, so true.
Long Exposure Photography Tips
Today thanks to the increased affordability of photographic filters, the rise of social media, like Instagram and the fact that more and more amateur photographers are getting close to landscape photography it’s not rare to see images like the one described.

Long Exposure Photography Tips

Best camera for long exposure
The point is this is not the easiest technique and mastering it can take a bit of time and effort consuming. And so it is not more concerned about the best camera but below tips will hep you in getting better shoots.

Best Long Exposure Photography Tips
Finding your way to this post makes you the lucky one, as this articles will make it easy for you to find your way to express the best in your long exposure photos. You will be taught and you will see that once you master the basic concepts and have the right tools it’s not impossible to get good results even at your first attempt.
Practice makes perfect and once time is devoted, will get us closer to perfection.
Below are the tips:

Know the weather conditions
In our next article we will be concerned about the camera setting. By know the weather we mean that you should know your setting and make sure that your composition is interesting and just because you are in a beautiful place, in front of a beautiful waterfall or the ocean, it doesn’t mean that your photo is going to be exciting. You also need an interesting sky, hence you need clouds. If you Google “Clouds forecast” you will find satellite images, meteorological sites and many other resources that will help you plan in advance and have an idea of what the sky will look like on the day and at the time of your shooting. Obviously try also to figure out if it’s going to rain, you don’t want to find yourself in the middle of a storm! Take heed..

Know the location:
The most important of all tips, you need to know the location where you are going to shoot. Endeavor to go there a day before or if you can’t, you could use Google maps to check the area, this will really help you. Long Exposure Photography Tips

Take note that in landscape photography, it is fundamental to know in advance what you are going to see, where to park your cars, where to keep your bags, what composition you want to use and being physically on location beforehand will give you the advantage of knowing where to position yourself to take the shot, how the light changes, what composition you are going to choose and last but not least, you need to know if the place is popular and if it’s going to be full of photographers on the day you are going to shoot.
Example of such is the Unity Park in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

Long Exposure Photography Tips

Arrive on time:
One of the mistake I use to make is being to the location on time, but thing has changed.
So, as you now know, the light is going to be more interesting at either sunrise or sunset, when shadows are longer, contrasts are less harsh, the sky especially if it’s a bit cloudy will be more interesting and vibrant and your photo will look much better.
You want to get to location before sunrise or sunset and be sure that the spot you planned to position yourself on, is free. If it’s not, you can always move yes, but in my experience I always ended up taking a better photo when I was able to get the composition I chose

Hire Some Equipment: Long Exposure Photography Tips
If you dont have a tripod you really need it.
You will need a tripod
If your budget is low you can use the Manfrotto Befree, it’s quite affordable, very compact and easy to bring along, if you have a more flexible budget you can also get the Manfrotto Befree Carbon Fiber Tripod, which I tried and it’s even lighter, yet very sturdy, both amazing to use, so go get one.

A tripod is fundamental for long exposure photography, since you will need to slow down your shutter speed to get the movement in the water. Make sure your tripod is not one of those wobbly ones that will move as soon as you blow on it, or your final image will be blurred. Long Exposure Photography Tips

Set your camera to aperture Program mode
This will be very interesting to some many photographers who are scared of using the Manual mode. Sure not a lot of people love to shoot in full manual mode, but I find it very useful most of the time, to let the camera decide the shutter speed.
This way when you set the F stop value, the camera will know what speed to use. For landscape photography, make sure you choose a F number above f/8.
All I mean is that you should use the P Mode

Check you histogram
On the left side, your histogram will tell you the amount of shadows (blacks) and on the right side you’ll see the highlights (bright areas) and as you smart student have already guessed mid tones are in the middle.
You don’t want your graph to be unbalanced, so you don’t want to see extreme peaks to the left or right, or the final image will either be under or overexposed. Sure you can look at your display, but chances are that it won’t tell you the truth since it’s too bright.

How to take long exposure photography in daylight

In a nut shell research your location and do some scouting. Planning is very important for deciding your composition.
Make sure you arrive on time. Be on location at least 30 minutes before you the good light comes out. A lot of variables could force you to change your position and you don’t want to miss the best light.
Getting to know the weather condition is also very paramount. Make sure that you won’t finish in the middle of a storm, but also that the sky is totally cloudless or it will result in a boring photo.
Use a tripod, or the entire image will be blurred.
At this point you can set your exposure. Set your camera to priority aperture so that it will choose the correct shutter speed fo you.
Take a test shot. You have your composition, your camera is on a tripod, the light is getting more interesting as sunrise or sunset get closer and you can start snapping a couple of shots as a test.
Put a filter on. After your test shots put a filter on, this will stop the light from hitting the sensor and the camera will further decrease the shutter speed. Resulting in an even more blurred and smooth water.
Take your final long exposure shot.

How to Make Money with Photography Hobby

How to Make Money with Photography Hobby in Uyo

In this post we will be bringing to you how to make money with the idea you’ve got, and or the simplest hobby you can venture into. I have carefully analysed the different ways you can make money with photography business.

Continue reading:

Advantages and Disadvantages

Before you rush into photography, take note about the disadvantage:

The disadvantage is that this knowledge is very simple to acquire. And with this there is a lot of competition in the business.
Don’t be scared as there is more advantages than the disadvantages.

And the good thing is that it is very lucrative, you what I mean.

The following are the different ways on How to Make Money with Photography Hobby:

1.  Shoot events
It’s one of the most classic ways to make money as a photographer. Weddings, TM, bridal shower, birthdays, company event and lots more. You have plenty of opportunities. It’s physical and can be exhausting, but there’s good money to be made. The amount you can charge mostly depends on your reputation, the moment of the year, and the location. When quoting your clients, don’t forget to take into account the hours of pre and post-production – not only the action time. And for finding contracts, the Internet (again!) has made it easier than ever. For this job, more than any other, you’ll need a complete online portfolio at your disposal. And it needs to be fully SEO optimized. It’s crucial because people looking for an event photographer are most likely to find them after a search on Google. Because we love you, and would never leave you stranded, here is a step-by-step guide to creating an impressive photography website.

2. Get gigs as an assistant photographer
Not booked on a specific date? Other photographers are, and they certainly will need the help of an assistant photographer. Just like actors, having a supporting role can be a very rewarding option. First, you’ll make some good money – without having to deal with all the negotiation and all the other hassles of being the main contractor. Plus, it’s an excellent way to minimize the down-times. Finally, it’s a great way to gain more experience. To get more of these types of offers, you’ll need to do some networking. Join clubs of photographers in your area, register to professional associations, and don’t neglect photo groups on Facebook and other social media outlets. Thousands of active photographers populate them with offers to collaborate, often in a last-minute mode. Which means that you should put the notification mode ‘On’, and prepare a bag of gear that’s always waiting for you somewhere in your apartment.Money, money, money: Efficiency should be the second name of an assistant photographer. Partners will hire you for your ability to work fast and intuitively, in some sort of symbiosis. So before starting, make sure you master the checklist of the 10 shots you must capture at a wedding.

3. Edit and retouch
From a model who wants to remove those slight imperfections, to a hotel owner who needs their resort to look a little more sunny, many people would pay to get their photos retouched. If you’re gifted with a brush and a lasso (or if you’ve just finished one of these amazing Photoshop online courses), it’s an open door for you to make some extra bucks.

4. Teach photography
Relax, the only math you’ll need here is the rule of thirds, and it’s far less intimidating than the rule of three you learned at school. With time, you acquired tons of valuable tips and techniques that other photographers would love to hear about. You can also give beginner classes for people living in your city, explaining the basics while transmitting your passion for photography. Teaching is known to be the best way of learning new stuff, and will also get you to meet new interesting people. Don’t forget to add the Wix Bookings app on your website, so you won’t have to deal with the reservations and payments. This great app enables you to take individual and group classes, automatically syncs all your calendars, and sends notifications and reminders to your pupils. Cherry on top: it’s 100M commission free!Money, money, money: Once again, the Internet completely reshuffled the rules of the game (In a good way). Millions of people are now taking photography classes online, for every level. It’s a convenient solution you should really consider. Once your video is shot, you simply have to publish it on your site with Wix Video for (virtually) everyone to enjoy it, for a fee that you decide on.

5. Sell digital or printed copies of your work
Everybody loves beautiful photography. For a long time, the possibility to acquire a piece of art was limited to a small circle of well-off individuals or companies. In the 21st century, more and more companies are offering high-quality shots at a very reasonable price, from just a dozen to a few hundreds dollars. But why should you to go through a reseller when you can market your pieces yourself? Wix Art Store is the tool that you’ve been longing for. This genius app transforms your photography website into a powerful selling machine. Your visitors can browse your photos in the highest quality possible, and simply choose the one(s) they like. You can offer them a digital license (100% commission free), or a printed version – on a canvas or any other objects. When it comes to receiving the payment, packaging and shipping, you won’t have to lift a finger: everything is taken care of.Money, money, money: Just like any business, the more exposure you get, the more orders you’ll receive. Make sure you learn about these 10 free tools to promote your photography business, before launching your virtual art store. How to Make Money with Photography Hobby

6. Write a photography blog
Itching to reveal the Shakespeare in you? Start a blog! It will boost the SEO of your photography website, contribute to establishing you as an expert in your field, and last but not least: get you some cash. You have a few ways to make money with a photography blog. The first one consists of putting ads, and getting paid every time a visitor clicks on them. The second is by doing referrals – basically, it means that you agree upon showing a specific link in one of your articles. Just like with ads, whenever readers click this link, you’ll receive a commission. The last is by writing reviews about companies’ products or services. Whichever option you decide to go with, you’ll need to prove strong traffic numbers, if you want to make substantial money out of your writing. This means you’ll need to publish quality content.
